Inspirational women are all around us, leading the way for others. And B&T doesn’t think it’s right that some of these women aren’t recognised for their achievements. Which is why we’ve created a Women in Media series!

To celebrate the launch of our annual Women in Media Awards (which, come August, will champion some well-deserving women from our industry) we’ve been profiling a couple of fab women a week.

Our last profile was Nicola Lewis from GroupM, and now it’s Jacqueline Ingram’s turn! Jacqueline is an account executive at QMS Media, and has some pretty good advice for young women.

Quirkiest attribute?

My TV or Radio volume always has to be an even number or divisible by five.

Favourite food?

D’affanois cheese – do yourselves a favour and try it!

What drives you?

Being the best version of myself. There’s always something to improve.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

I’ve always been told that everything happens for a reason.

I didn’t necessarily agree with this as a child when things didn’t go my way, but living by this mantra has taught me resilience, to trust the process, and to endure and overcome difficult situations knowing that perhaps it was not meant to be.

Adversity builds strong people in the end!

What do you think is the most exciting thing about women working in the media right now?

Right now, there is increasingly more conversation and importance being placed around gender inequality & the underrepresentation of women in senior leadership positions.

Big progress has been made in the media industry, however there is still a way to go.

I think it’s an exciting prospect that some of my fellow female colleagues are starting to, and will continue to feel empowered and encouraged to fill these top jobs.

What women do you find inspiring?

Some of the greatest inspirations for me have been the strong females across three generations in my family – my grandma, my mum and my two older sisters.

Outside of my family, I’m inspired by women who aren’t afraid to speak out, and those who use their fame/position as a voice to stand up for what they believe in and empower others.

What advice would you give to young aspiring women?

I would still consider myself a young aspiring woman, so it’s funny to think of myself giving advice!

I guess something I’ve learnt recently and try to remind myself of is that there are other people in this industry (both men and women) who deserve success just as much as I do.

If you’re not the nicest, most hardworking person in the industry, there’s going to be someone just as nice, hardworking, with more experience who will always prevail. Also, don’t be afraid to speak up for what you want – if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Why are women vital to your industry?

Diversity. Woman are vital to every industry – we make up more than half of the world’s population and potential.

B&T‘s Women in Media Awards 2018 will be held on Friday 17 August 2018 at Doltone House – Jones Bay Wharf. Grab early bird tickets to the event here and find all other info on the website.
