At B&T, we firmly believe that women in senior leadership roles can lead the way for younger, aspiring women who are just starting out in the industry. So we’ve decided to shine a light on these women with our Women in Media profile series.

This series was started to celebrate our annual Women in Media Awards, which, in just a few weeks, will recognise the women who go above and beyond in this industry every day.

Today’s profile features Yahoo7′s Clare Rudduck, who is the company’s NSW sales director.

Rudduck loves lollies, dances on the phone to clients, and the best advice she’s ever received is to be the person that says “yes” to every opportunity.

“There are times in your career when you want to say no for many reasons – the risk of failure, criticism, or embarrassment – often the things we need the most we resist.

“Saying yes means making the most of every opportunity, adventure and challenge which leads to a path of incredible transformation,” she said.

She’s not wrong. Over her 10-year career with Yahoo7, Rudduck has developed a diverse range of skills including building and maintaining client relationships, understanding digital marketplace methodologies and creating innovative media strategies to achieve goals and objectives.

Rudduck said the key to success is having goals – particularly long-term ones.

“Goals ensure you stay focused and on track, because no matter how much time you give and energy it takes, goals provide the motivation to keep going.

“Play the long game, success rarely happens overnight and when it might look like someone succeeded out of luck its usually not the case,” she said.

“If you want to be successful at anything in life you have to be patient and focused, you have to have faith that your hard work means you are gradually and incrementally on your way to achieving your aspirations.”

At Yahoo7, Rudduck spearheads a team focused on creating greater state-based leadership, and said that having a diverse team is key in any industry.

“If we surround ourselves with people similar to us, we run the risk of creating echo chambers instead of a workplace where we engage critically with each other, have the ability to learn from each other and have the ability to create something bigger than the individual,” she said.

But Rudduck said that women challenging the norm are particularly inspiring.

“Working mothers, women in leadership and women entrepreneurs, their perspective, fearless nature, resilience, and ability to challenge the norm inspire me every day,” she said.

B&T‘s Women in Media Awards 2018 will be held on Friday 17 August 2018 at Doltone House – Jones Bay Wharf. Grab early bird tickets to the event here and find all other info on the website.
