The Bulldog’s golden point thriller against the Dragons not only lit up the Allegian Stadium, but also gave Nine the win over Paramount’s coverage of the Matildas opening fixture of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, albeit at different time slots.
More than 1.5 million tuned into Nine’s coverage of the Las Vegas opening round fixture between the Bulldogs and Dragons, which was also shown on Kayo Sports, while 647,000 stayed on for the whole match.
Stephen Crichton kicked the winning field goal deep into extra time, while over on Channel 10, Sam Kerr settled the Tillies fixture against a rather American-born Philippines outfit after 14 minutes.
The football reached more than 1.4 million and had an average audience of 635,000 viewers.
If those figures aren’t close enough, the NRL also edged out Matildas at the ground; 45,719 attended the Allegiant Stadium to watch the footy, while 44,379 attended Perth’s Optus stadium for the football.
Married at First Sight continued to dominate prime time viewing with an average audience of 2.12 million and reach oof 3.4 million.
Meanwhile, Seven’s Australian Idol posted reach of 1.78 million and an average of 911,000.
