Wednesday TV Wrap: Viewers Continue To Desert The ABC’s 7.30

As regular readers of B&T’s daily TV wrap would know, news programs have enjoyed a sharp rise in viewers since COVID-19 and everyone got sent into lockdown, often up 20 per cent.

However, that’s not the case over at the ABC. As its 7pm news bulletin has boasted healthy numbers during lockdown, viewers aren’t hanging about to watch 7.30 straight after.

A quick glance at last night’s OzTAM metro numbers had the ABC’s 7pm news pull 778,000. But once the weather report was over some quarter-of-a-million viewers tuned out, leaving Leigh Sales’ 7.30 with just 524,000.

So, it begs the question – are ABC viewers turning over to MasterChef and Big Brother? It would appear unlikely.

The two shows post 7.30Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (555,000) and The Weekly With Charlie Pickering (532,000) – both boasted more numbers than 7.30.

In other TV news from last night, MasterChef (975,000) continued its dominance over Big Brother (805,000).

That said, Seven still won Wednesday with 28.6 per cent of the audience share (all channels). Nine did 24.7 per cent, 10 had 21.6 per cent, the ABC pulled 15.9 per cent and SBS did 9.2 per cent.

Seven did well with its 6pm news bulletin (1.168 milllion), Home And Away (692,000) and The Chase (677,000).

Best for Nine was its news (1.043 million), while ACA was also down (701,000). Hot Seat had 574,000, Paramedics did 415 and Taronga: Who’s Who In The Zoo monkeyed about to 412,000.

Other perfomers for 10 were The Project (577,000) and 10 News First (423,000).
