Last night’s State of Origin coverage was a winner for Nine, netting 1,911,000 viewers across OzTAM’s metro data.

NSW beat Queensland 50 to six in a historic win. The pre-match coverage also did well for Nine, scoring 1,083,000 viewers, while the post-match coverage had 652,000.

The numbers were up on 2020 (last year’s first game posting 1.836 million last year); however, that series was played out of season due to COVID.

While 2019’s opener pulled 2,178,000 metro viewers.

Seven News was sandwiched between the two with 1,099,000, while Nine News had 1,048,000 viewers and ABC News had 743,000.

The top entertainment of the night was Home and Away with 561,000 viewers, while The Chase had 545,000. Nine’s Hot Seat was next with 543,000.

Both MasterChef and Big Brother followed with 532,000 and 510,000 viewers respectively.

The ABC’s night had 7.30 at 554,000 viewers, while Hard Quiz had 510,000 and Mad As Hell  had 467,000.

10’s The Project had 513,000 viewers while 10 News First had 419,000.

Seven finished up with The Front Bar on 345,000 viewers, in defiance of all the rugby.

The Nine Network won overall with a stomping 43.5 per cent of the daily share.

The Seven Network was next with 22.7 per cent, followed by Network 10 with 14.9 per cent and the ABC TV Network with 13.1 per cent.

The SBS Network had six per cent.
