Another day, another win for Nine’s The Block last night. However, it was the ABC’s comedies giving the free-to-airs a scare.

The Block pulled 1.03 million viewers according to overnight OzTAM figures. However, it was the ABC’s Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell (723,000) and Utopia (702,000) that were arguably the evening’s standouts.

Both the comedy shows won their time slots beating Nine’s Doctor Doctor (690,000) and Ten’s Offspring (568,000).

Ten’s The Bachelor did well for the network pulling in 749,000.

Nine won the night with 27.9 per cent, then Seven 26.2 per cent, Ten had 20.05 per cent, the ABC 18.4 per cent and SBS 7.5 per cent.

In the battle of the 6pm news bulletins, Nine (1.03 million) beat rival Seven (1.01 million).

Over the ABC, its 7pm news bulletin managed 733,000 and Hard Quiz capped off its successful comedy night with a rising audience of 631,000.

On SBS it was Ireland with Simon Reeve was its standout with 230,000.
