Industry social purpose organisation, UnLtd has launched its event program in Queensland with the inaugural Big Clash Brisbane cricket event.
The event took place on 17 March and saw Brisbane’s media owners go head-to-head with the agencies to bat and bowl for a good cause.
The Brisbane event raised an impressive $38,000 with all proceeds going towards UnLtd’s work helping children and young people at risk.
The women’s teams kicked off the day with Delaney Lang-Lemckert from Wavemaker leading the agency team and Jess Healy from Paramount captaining the media owners team.
After an action-packed game, it was the agencies who took the victory with a 58 to 27 win with Jen Novasel claiming a sensational hat trick, the first ever hat-trick in the eight eight-year history of the Big Clash.
The agencies continued their winning streak in the men’s game with Warwick Taylor from Zenith leading his team (featured image) to victory by 5 wickets against the media owners team, captained by Ollie Richardson from Nova.
Aaron Nye from News Corp was crowned player of the day for the men’s game for his all-round performance and Jen Novosel from Resolution Digital in the women’s game for her heroic achievement.
The event was sponsored by JCDecaux, ACM and Seven West Media, who kept the participants cool and hydrated thanks to a juice bar, gelato cart and a Kombi Keg van. A huge crowd of over 250 people across Brisbane’s adland came along to network and cheer their teams to victory.
“What a day! It was so fantastic to get together as an industry after a tough couple of years to get active over some healthy competition on the cricket field,” said media owners team captain, Jess Healy.
“It was good to reconnect with our partners and rivalries and to do it all for such a good cause! We can’t wait to be back next year for a rematch and for our chance to lift the trophy!”
The launch event follows the appointment of Anthea Gaffney as the general manager for Queensland late last year and coincided with an UnLtd Roadshow across the Brisbane advertising industry.
“We are so excited to grow our presence and the positive impact of our industry in Queensland,” said UnLtd CEO, Chris Freel.
“We’ve visited over 20 local companies this week and the support for UnLtd has been phenomenal. Thank you to all who came out to our launch, especially after the challenging times with the floods in the region, it’s been heartwarming to see the industry’s desire to use their skills and power for good, even when faced with their own challenges.”
Gaffney added, “There is so much talent and passion in our industry in Brisbane and we can’t wait to channel that energy to make a difference in the lives of young people at risk. We’ve got an exciting year planned with more events and opportunities to come together for good and we look forward to connecting with even more local businesses.”
The next Brisbane event is the UnLtd: Open golf tournament on 9 June. Limited spots still available, so please contact [email protected] for more details.
