Typically, most of us don’t get too misty-eyed over a soft drink.
However, Coca-Cola’s new Christmas campaign is apprently having lots of sobbing viewers reaching for the tissue box.
The spot’s the work of Wieden + Kennedy London and was directed by none other than Kiwi Taika Waititi who won an Academy Award this year for his film Jojo Rabbit.
The ad takes a bit of an epic Bear Grylls turn as it sees a desperate dad trying to deliver his young daughter’s Christmas letter to Santa in the North Pole. The agency even managing to squeeze Coke’s famous Christmas truck in for a cameo.
Social media quickly applauded the ad for its sentimentality.
“I’m not crying at the Coca-Cola Christmas advert, you’re crying at the Coca-Cola Christmas advert,” wrote one.
Another user described its as a “tear jerker” before crediting the acclaimed director. “That man is too good! Just two minutes of pure awesomeness,” they wrote.
Another fan added: “Dramatic, sentimental, and likely to reduce you to tears.”
“I’ve never cried at a Coca-Cola advert before but @TaikaWaititi has worked his magic and now I’m bawling,” said another.
