The terror attack on Manchester yesterday morning Australian time has seen Aussies flock to their TVs as ratings for news bulletins soared last night.

Channel Nine’s 6pm bulletin pulled in 1.15 million viewers, making it the network’s most watched news show of 2017 outside of a public holiday according to OzTam figures.

It was a similar story at Seven, whose 6pm bulletin wasn’t far behind with 1.14 million viewers.

When the news broke AM Australian time, both Sunrise and Today extended its morning breakfast shows to cover the news. Sunrise pulled 186,000 viewers and Today managed 133,000.

The ABC’s 7pm bulletin had 759,000 and a further 512,000 hung around for Leigh Sales’ 7.30.

In other TV news for the night, The Chasers’ War On Waste continued to do well for the ABC with 754,000.

In the battle of the reality shows, The Voice was the pick for Nine with 953,000. However, the show’s now at the knock-our rounds and viewer numbers are down about 10 per cent on 2016.

Over at Ten, MasterChef continued its steady year just falling short of the 900,000 mark with 899,000.

Seven’s news and House Rules (914,000) saw the network win the night with 28 per cent of audience share. Nine was second with 27.8 per cent, Ten snared 21.2 per cent, the ABC 17.4 per cent and SBS had 5.7 per cent. Great Continental Railway Journeys was the pick for the Special Broadcaster with 293,000 and remains B&T’s go to program for a great night in.
