Seven’s Commonwealth Games coverage swept three spots in the top ten as Australian athletes delivered gold, silver and a national record in Glasgow.
The coverage took out the first, second and fifth spots in Wednesday’s ratings. Day 6 night coverage was first with a Total TV National Reach of 2,385,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 1,144,000. The Day 6 evening coverage was close behind with a reach of 2,308,000 and an average audience of 1,049,000. The late coverage was in fifth with a reach of 1,650,000 and an average audience of 582,000.
Lachlan Kennedy broke the Australian record in the men’s 100m, running a sub-10-second time to take silver. Ky Robinson claimed gold in the men’s 10,000m, while Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers went one-two in the women’s high jump, taking gold and silver respectively. Australia’s medal tally now sits at 102 including 47 gold, 21 silver and 33 bronze.
Outside the Games, quiz show staples held firm. Nine’s Tipping Point Australia came in sixth with a reach of 1,478,000 and an average audience of 823,000. Seven’s rival format The Chase Australia had a reach of 1,448,000 and an average audience of 740,000.
Nine’s Live Aid: When Rock ‘n’ Roll Took On The World drew in a reach of 1,438,000 with an average audience of 441,000. The documentary explored the behind the scenes of the 1985 concert, tracing how Bob Geldof, Bono and Sting turned a benefit gig into a global movement.
ABC’s Spicks and Specks was built around Eurovision history. The episode featured with Australia’s highest ever placer in Eurovision, Dami Im, alongside Ireland’s Dustin the Turkey, Spacey Jane’s Caleb Harper, comedians Nikki Britton and Andrew Maxwell. It had a reach of 902,000 and an average audience of 306,000.
Ten’s night was quieter, with Antiques Roadshow its only entertainment program to crack the top 30. It had a reach of 488,000 and an average audience of 220,000.
