The NRL was high up in the mix last night, ranking in fifth overall for the night with a total TV national reach of 1,320,000. But seemingly, the high-scoring game was not enough to keep viewers engaged, with only an average of 583,000 sticking around.
That drop off could be thanks, in part, to a significant drop off from St George Illawarra Dragons supporters who, with the team already down 12 points by 28 minutes into the match, might have been rightfully ready to switch the TV off.
For those sad fans who didn’t switch the TV off before half time, they were treated to an insane scoring showdown that saw South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Alex Johnston land one try closer to surpassing Ken Irvine’s try-scoring record, which has stood since 1973 – a milestone he has been chasing for the better part of the season.
All in all, the sodden affair ended with South Sydney 40 points to St George’s 0, securing the Bunnies 13th place as the ladder currently stands – no mean feat for a team that only a few weeks back seemed a shoo-in for the wooden spoon.
Overall, it was Seven that won the night with the Seven News hitting a total TV national reach of 2,086,000 and a national average of 1,308,000.
