With the NRL and AFL Thursday night match-ups done for the year, it was a quiet night on television. Gout Gout once again delivered, doing the numbers for Nine as he raced his way to an impressive fourth place in his semi-final of the 200M at the World Athletics Championships live from Tokyo.
While the 17-year-old may have just missed out on progressing to the next round, the position was hugely impressive when you consider that this is is first major championship and even making it to the semi-finals is a feat that Usain Bolt didn’t achieve in his first championship pursuit.

Humble in his defeat, Gout told the cameras after his final that he’s still “got time”.
“I’m just a kid now, but … I can compete, at the young age that I am, against the best men in the world.
“That’s been the biggest eye opener for me. Just knowing that I can actually go out there, run my heart out and place against these grown men.
“They may not have 15 years [more in their careers]. But I got 15 years.
“I’ve got no doubt that if I can do this at 17, I can do this at 25 as well. And I’ll be even better at 25.”
Gout Gout may not have tasted finals glory just yet, but he did do the numbers for Nine with a total TV national reach of 2,250,000 and a national average of 677,000.
