Australia’s love affair with quiz shows showed no signs of slowing down on Thursday night, with Nine’s Tipping Point Australia and Seven’s The Chase Australia continuing to attract strong audiences despite a major FIFA World Cup clash dominating the evening.
While sport did ultimately take the ratings crown, quiz fans still showed up big-time, with both game shows delivering strong results and proving there is still plenty of appetite for testing general knowledge from the comfort of sitting on the couch in dressing gowns and fluffy slippers.
Tipping Point Australia reached 1.434 million Australians, with a Total TV National Average Audience of 792,000, making it the strongest entertainment performer outside of sport and news.
The Ben Shephard-hosted game show, which has become a reliable fixture in Nine’s schedule, saw contestants put their general knowledge to the test as they battled to take home the cash prize.
Not far behind was Seven’s The Chase Australia, which attracted a national reach of 1.406 million and an average audience of 727,000, proving viewers are still keen to watch contestants go head-to-head against the Chaser.
Nine also had a strong night outside sport, with A Current Affair reaching 1.446 million viewers and averaging 973,000, while Seven News and 9News continued their nightly ratings battle.
Meanwhile, the FIFA World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina dominated overall viewing, reaching 3.390 million Australians and averaging 1.877 million for SBS.
