With no Thursday night sport to fall back on, it was an eerily quiet night on TV last night. Only two programs crept over a million national average viewers, and both of them were news.
Nine took out the top spot with a total TV national reach of 1,923,000 and a national average of 1,225,000.
With Aussie sporting legend Ariarne Titmus, announcing her retirement from professional swimming earlier in the day, it was all eyes on the news for the full story.
At just 2025, the four-time Olympic Medalist has struggled with health scares this year, with doctors removing benign tumours from her ovaries. Announcing her retirement, Titmus said “I’ve always loved swimming, but I guess I’ve taken this time away from the sport and realised some things in my life that have always been important to me are just a little bit more important to me now than swimming.”
Alongside her announcement, the 25-year-old, who last year spoke at Cairns Crocodiles, shared a message to her seven-year-old self.

“Today, you retire from competitive swimming. 18 years you spent in the pool competing. 10 of those representing your country. You went to two Olympic Games and even better, you won!!!,” she wrote.
The end of her career also brings an end to the iconic partnership between Titmus and coach Dean Boxall, who went viral on a number of occasions for his outlandish and over-the-top celebrations of the star.
