Last night was the start of the 2021 NRL season, where the Melbourne Storm beat the South Sydney Rabbitohs 26 to 18.

According to OzTAM, the season launched on Nine to a solid 463,000 viewers. Tonight, the network will air the Brisbane Broncos versus the Parramatta Eels.

In other news (literally), Seven News was on top with 904,000 viewers while Nine News was at 822,000. ABC News leapfrogged over A Current Affair (525,000) to nab 586,00 viewers.

10’s Gogglebox again secured good numbers. It was the best performing entertainment show at 554,000 viewers, showing the undeniable appeal of watching people on TV watch people on TV.

The rest of the ABC’s night had 7.30 at 513,000 viewers, Back Roads at 469,000 and Q+A at 292,000.

Over at 10, Territory Cops had 397,000 viewers while The Project had 361,000, Bondi Rescue had 351,000 and 10 News First had 295, 000.

Nine’s only other programming was Hot Seat, which had 386,000 viewers.

For Seven Home and Away had 494,000 viewers and The Chase had 453,000.

Sam Armytage’s last episode of Sunrise – which netted 308,000 viewers – saw her chastise the press, saying “I do want to say that I never fully understood some of the scrutiny, and the snarkiness and the bullying from some aspects of the media.”

Nine (all channels) just pipped Seven (all channels) to win the daily share, with 27 per cent to 26 per cent. Network 10 came in at a solid third place with 21 per cent, while the ABC network had sixteen per cent.

The SBS Network had eight per cent.
