The World’s Greatest Ads Are Coming To Australia As ‘La Nuit de l’Advertising’ Lands In Sydney

La Nuit de l'Advertising in Belgium.

The Alliance Française de Sydney is bringing the iconic French cult event — ‘La Nuit de l’Advertising’ — to Sydney’s Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace for one night only, Thursday 22 October 2026.

Forget skipping the ads, Sydney is about to spend an entire night watching nothing but. And they’re all killer, no filler. And it promises to be one helluva party.

‘La Nuit de l’Advertising’ (pronounced lah nwee duh l’Advertising) or ‘The Night of the Ad-Eaters’, was created in France 45 years ago by Jean-Marie Boursicot, has grown into a cult phenomenon for lovers of advertising and cinema across the globe.

For one night only, audiences are immersed in a giant wave of commercials spanning more than 70 years, from 45 different countries.

From the latest Cannes Lions winners to legendary classic campaigns, creative, aesthetic, moving, deliciously kitsch and always funny, it proves that some of the best storytelling doesn’t always come from cinema.

The Sydney edition promises an epic, high-energy interactive cinema experience: laughs, gasps, applause, whistles, and maybe even a tear or two, as the audience is encouraged to loudly and proudly voice its opinion on every spot selected.

The evening unfolds across a three-hour screening of fully subtitled films. Along the way, a live stage show intermission sets the tone for a full-blown party atmosphere. Some surprises might even be in store for the ad-venturous.

“La Nuit de l’Advertising is all about celebrating the artistry, history, and pure entertainment of global advertising. Commercials are a reflection of the world we live in, and it creates a common language between generations. Australia has always punched above its weight creatively, so it felt like the perfect fit to bring this iconic event here.

Sydney audiences are going to love it. It’s not a polite screening; it’s a cinema full of people cheering, booing and debating what makes a great ad.” said Amaury Treguer, Board Member of the Alliance Française de Sydney and co-founder of Bread Agency.

The Alliance Française is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to Franco-Australian exchange. It has run the Alliance Française French Film Festival since 1989. Now in its 38th edition, it has become one of Australia’s biggest cultural  events, drawing 213,000 admissions nationwide in 2026. This track record convinced the Alliance Française to bring the iconic concept of La Nuit de l’Advertising Down Under.

The ambition is simple: create a new unmissable rendezvous for screen culture lovers, and a joyful celebration of what makes advertising genuinely great entertainment.

Through this iconic French concept, the Alliance Française de Sydney puts the spotlight on the limitless creativity of advertising, and the natural connections between the film and advertising industries, with even worldwide movie stars set to appear on screen.

The event is also seeking sponsors and brands to join this premiere, from advertising on the big screen to product gifting and activations. Brands wanting to get involved are invited to get in touch to discuss partnership opportunities. B&T has already signed up as a media partner. Tres bien.
