Telstra has shown Australia how to connect in more places, with campaign from Bear Meets Eagle On Fire with +61

The campaign highlights Satellite Messaging technology, which lets you send a text when you’re outside mobile network coverage, and is exclusively available to Telstra customers.

Three stop-motion films, directed by Catherine Prowse from Passion Pictures, are all set in remote places where the characters who might otherwise be out of coverage can still send a text via space, connecting to satellites. Clever rotating sets are used to demonstrate this connection by rotating from farmland, desert and mountain scenes directly to space, in what is another charming and distinctive series.

Supported by an integrated media buy, the campaign will run across TV, cinema, digital, social and retail.

“This campaign uses simple, endearing product demonstrations to show the benefit of Telstra’s Satellite messaging. The care and craft the team put into making the sets and characters was extraordinary. Satellite Messaging offers customers a simple way to send a message when travelling, working or exploring off-grid – and this work shows that in a way that’s clear and engaging,” said Alita McMenamin, Telstra head of brand and marketing communications.

“This is such a simple idea with engineering at the heart of the execution. We love that the rigour and care that stop motion requires to make something look effortless is also true of how Satellite messaging works and Catherine has done a lovely job of making that huge effort charming and memorable,” added Micah Walker, chief creative officer, BMEOF.

This campaign follows the news of Telstra’s CMO Brent Smart departing the business.
