Steve Buscemi Returns For Telstra Via Bear Meets Eagle On Fire

Telstra has brought back its intergalactic villains for a second chapter of its network security campaign, again teaming up with Bear Meets Eagle On Fire and +61.

The campaign sees space emperor Steve Buscemi and his band of alien accomplices return after their first attempt to take on Telstra ended in spectacular failure.

This time, the villains have a new plan — but Telstra has also upped its game, once again foiling their attempts.

Created by Bear Meets Eagle On Fire, the campaign uses humour and a series of space-themed narratives to highlight Telstra’s network security capabilities and the role it plays in helping protect Australians from scams.

The campaign comes as scam and cybercrime concerns remain high, with Australians reporting more than $2 billion in scam losses last year.

Against that backdrop, the work puts Telstra’s network protection front and centre, highlighting its ability to block millions of scam calls and texts every month.

Directed by Randy Krallman of SMUGGLER, the campaign comprises several individual narratives across different formats, with activity rolling out across TV, digital, social, cinema and Telstra stores.

Alita McMenamin, Telstra’s head of brand and marketing communications, said the second chapter was designed to build on the appeal of the original campaign.

“Great villains always come back for a sequel,” McMenamin said.“The second chapter of this campaign takes what Australians loved about the original and raises the stakes, using humour and storytelling to bring an important message to life: helping Australians stay safer online.”

Micah Walker, chief creative officer at Bear Meets Eagle On Fire, said the team had taken learnings from the first campaign into the sequel.

“I’m really proud of this,” Walker said. “I think we’ve managed to take some learnings from last time and make something even better. Massive cheers to the whole village it took to bring this all to life.”
