Taylor Swift’s clothing line “TS 1989” is causing some bad blood between Tay-Tay and Chinese media because it references Tiananmen Square.

Swifty’s clothing line references her initials and the year of birth, but it could also could be construed to reference the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. The Chinese communist government has suppressed any mention of the massacre of students and democracy activists. Even the date of Tiananmen Square, June 4, 1989, is considered a political no-no.

June 4th 1989 is so sensitive that Chinese social media censors have blocked any consecutive combinations of the numbers 6, 4 and 89.

Tay Tay announced the clothing line will be available in China via e-commerce site JD.com next month. The line includes jumpers, t-shirts, bracelets, bags and dresses all featuring T.S 1989.

I choose to believe it was Taylor Swift’s intention to fight for a people’s democracy in China the whole time.

Possible tagline for @taylorswift13 1989 China tour: “Bandaids don’t fix bullet holes.”
