A small business in Sydney has launched a COVID giveaway – which includes a candle called Rona, some matches and a rapid test – welcome to 2022.
As everyone knows rapid tests have become increasingly hard to find as COVID-19 numbers in Sydney continue to surge and lots of sick people are in need.
So a small business called The Care Package Co has basically chosen to capitalise on this and has created a Giveaway that people can enter to try and win a rapid test – because you know pretty much all chemists are sold out.
The post reads: “GIVEAWAY! Tag someone with COVID- You and your friend will go in the draw to win a RAT TEST, RONA Candle & a box of matches to light your way out of isolation.”

Naturally, there’s now a Twitter thread discussing the infamous giveaway.

Pedestrian reported that the shop told the publication, “Like most people in the Sydney community, I have found it very difficult to get rapid antigen tests. The supply and distribution of these tests has been very poorly managed and for many people, they are also simply unaffordable.
“I’ve heard of some people paying up to $35 for a single test. How is that fair?
“The promotion was a way to highlight the fact that these are so scarce and hard to come by that they are like a prize. After buying a pack of 5 for my family of 3, I have 2 single tests remaining that will be given away for free.”
We could debate all day about if shops should be incorporating rapid tests into their marketing but the real issue here is that everyone should be able to get access to rapid tests.
No one should have to enter an Instagram giveaway in hopes of getting one.
