Suncorp Bank will dissolve as a standalone consumer brand next year, with ANZ set to migrate its 1.2 million customers onto its banking systems and platforms by June 2027.
The move marks the next major stage of ANZ’s $4.9 billion acquisition of Suncorp Bank, which was completed in July 2024. The move will bring the Queensland-founded banking brand fully under the ANZ name.
For Suncorp Bank customers, the change will mean access to ANZ’s national branch network and digital infrastructure.
ANZ first agreed to acquire Suncorp Bank in 2022, but the deal was initially rejected by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in 2023 over competition concerns. The Australian Competition Tribunal later overturned that decision in February 2024, allowing the acquisition to proceed.
When the acquisition was completed, ANZ initially licensed the Suncorp brand for between five and seven years. ANZ subsequently brought forward its integration timetable as part of a broader strategy to simplify its operations and reduce duplication across the group.
The full migration of Suncorp Bank customers is scheduled to be completed by June 2027, when the Suncorp Bank brand will formally give way to ANZ.
“Today marks an important step as we begin informing customers about what it means for Suncorp Bank to become ANZ,” said Suncorp Bank CEO and ANZ managing director Queensland Bruce Rush.
“As Suncorp Bank becomes ANZ over time, we’ll keep our same focus on our customers. We are committed to making this move straightforward, safe and well-supported, and ensuring customers still see familiar faces and continue to be part of a bank that helps communities thrive.
“As customers join ANZ, they’ll have access to a larger network of banking specialists and branches, leading anti-fraud technology, specialist expertise and investments in the communities we serve.”
Leo Australia, won the Suncorp creative account in 2024. In the same year, it also won the ANZ creative account in which included Suncorp Bank brand.
