Subway has appointed communications agency Tonic as its PR partner of record in Australia, expanding the agency’s existing remit with the brand in New Zealand.
Under the expanded remit, Tonic will lead earned media, strategic communications and experiential campaigns for Subway Australia. It will help drive brand affinity and create culturally relevant moments that connect with customers nationwide.
The appointment extends a successful partnership that began in New Zealand in 2022 and now sees Tonic supporting the brand across both sides of the Tasman.
The agency has worked alongside Subway in New Zealand for the past four years, delivering a range of campaigns and activations, including the brand’s 60th ‘#Fanversary’ celebrations last year.
“We’re incredibly proud to be expanding our partnership with Subway into Australia. Over the past several years we’ve developed a deep understanding of the brand, its franchise network and the customers at the heart of the business. That foundation allows us to hit the ground running in Australia and create moments that deliver impact from day one,” said Tonic Communications managing director ANZ Georgia Coleman.
As part of its continued growth in Australia, Tonic recently established a presence in Brisbane and appointed former Subway public relations & corporate social responsibility manager ANZ, Amelia Oberhardt, as media and communications director. Based in Brisbane, Oberhardt will lead day-to-day activity for the account alongside Tonic’s trans-Tasman team.
“Tonic have become a trusted extension of our team and an integral part of our Team Fresh agency model. Their expertise and deep understanding of both the Australian and New Zealand markets made expanding the partnership an easy decision. Tonic continue to deliver fresh thinking and strong results, and we’re excited about what’s next,” said Subway ANZ head of brand marketing Kerrie Hockless.
