Snapchat Launches Personalised Geofilters For Users

Video messaging app Snapchat has launched a new feature which creates personalised geofilters (artistic overlays placed on a photo or video) for parties, wedding, business, or any other place or event. Snapchatters can purchase a geofilter for an hour or up to 30 days, the pricing starts at $5.

This announcement comes after Snapchat dropped its paid lens store which placed an overlay animation on a user’s photo or video- a popular lens was the vomiting rainbow.

The new feature expands Snapchat’s geofilter submission program in an attempt to bump-up revenue: not only will users be able to create a custom, temporary geofilter for an event but brands can also submit a geofilter that features their logos.

How it works:

  • Design — Use your favorite image editor to create a filter. We’ve also provided some templates that are compatible with Photoshop and Illustrator to get you started
  • Map — Pick a geofence where your filter will appear, then choose the time and dates you want your Geofilter to be available.
  • Buy — Submit your Geofilter. Our team will quickly review it and, assuming all is well, get it up and running.

On-Demand Geofilters are available now in the US, UK, and Canada.

According to a press release, almost half a million Community Geofilters have been submitted and every day, Snaps overlaid with Geofilters are viewed hundreds of millions of times.
