NOVA Entertainment’s smoothfm has failed to claw back any market share it lost in Sydney in the last radio ratings survey, surrendering its top spot overall for FM in Sydney to Australian Radio Network’s WSFM.
GfK, the official provider of radio ratings for Commercial Radio Australia, today released its fifth survey for the year, which showed a further 1.1 per cent drop in overall market share for Nova’s easy listening station in Sydney, following a 2.2 per cent drop in Survey 4.
Once again, smoothfm dropped off the pace in every single time slot in the Sydney market, with evening seeing the biggest decline (down 2.2 per cent to 6.4 per cent), followed by drive (down 1.8 per cent to 8.1 per cent), breakfast (down 1.3 per cent to 6.3 per cent), weekend (down 1.0 per cent to 1.2 per cent), afternoon (down 0.6 per cent to 8.9 per cent) and morning (down 0.4 per cent to 8.1 per cent).
Part of WFSM’s overall market share gain in Sydney came from WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda (pictured above), who overtook Nova’s Fitzy & Whippa with a 1.1 per cent share increase to 8.9 per cent, placing the ARN duo second in the Sydney brekkie slot behind KIIS 1065’s Kyle & Jackie O.
Meanwhile in Melbourne, FOX FM’s Hamish & Andy surrendered its lead in drive to 3AW with a big 2.2 per cent market share drop, allowing the Macquarie Media-owned station to claw back some of the market share it had lost overall in the previous ratings. In more bad news for FOX FM, the station suffered a 1.1 per cent market share drop to give away its top FM ranking to smoothfm.
