Stan and SBS have announced a landmark agreement to bring World Movies to a new audience on Stan’s video streaming service.

World Movies will be included in Stan’s offering, providing Australians with access to some of the best films from around the world.

World Movies will join SBS series and Australian-made productions including the Logie-winning Housos, cult favourite Wilfred and AFI and Logie-nominated Better Man in a multi-year licensing agreement with Stan. As part of the partnership, SBS will also provide critically acclaimed European dramas The Killing, The Bridge and Prisoners Of War, among other key programs.

Michael Ebeid, CEO of SBS, said: “Diversity is at the heart of SBS and we are thrilled that many of SBS’s original productions will form part of the launch lineup for Stan. We are big believers in the power of locally made Australian television and see Stan as contributing to the ongoing strength of our television landscape.”

In announcing the deal, Mike Sneesby, CEO of Stan, said: “With Stan, Australians will have a value-for-money entertainment service that makes premium content accessible to everyone. Our partnership with SBS and World Movies shows a commitment to collaborating with the industry’s best in bringing a new standard of entertainment to Australians.”

Adding to the announcement, Nick Forward, content and product director of Stan, said: “The addition of World Movies makes Stan the Australian destination for the best of world cinema. I look forward to collaborating with the team at SBS to bring great stories to Stan.”

Chris Keely, general manager of subscription TV at SBS, welcomed the addition of Stan to the World Movies family, saying: “World Movies has long been Australia’s home of international film, showcasing the best films from around the world. World-class content continues to be a key driver to digital platforms, making Stan a natural home for World Movies.”

Titles will be available to watch instantly in full HD on multiple platforms including television, tablets, computers and mobile phones.
