For most fashion labels a ban from a raft of major department stores would be a disaster, but not the ever-resilient Trump family.
Following her father’s elevation to the White House, a number of US department stores pulled Ivanka Trump’s “Trump” clothing range, the excuse given was poor sales. However, there had also been a concerted campaign to have the range boycotted.
Not that appears to have made an impact. Lyst, an e-commerce aggregator which tracks purchasing data from thousands of US retailers, said the brand’s sales increased by a whopping 346 per cent between January to February.
It follows on from news last month that Ivanka’s perfume range had become the top sellers on Amazon.
The stats were reported on US fashion site Refinery 29 that found sales of Trump’s range had increased a staggering 557 per cent from January 2016. The brand was ranked as no 11 in sales on Lyst for the month of February, a sharp increase from number 550 the month previous.
Sarah Tanner, Lyst’s US public relations, told Refinery 29: “Ivanka Trump brand has never ranked in as a top seller on our site. To see such an extreme spike in one month is completely unheard of and came as a huge surprise to us.”
It’s not clear exactly why sales of the range have spiralled, however, it’s thought to be Trump supporters protesting the boycott. And worse news for retailers who dumped the range in the first place, those supporter are also calling for boycotts of those stores.
President of Trump’s fashion range Abigail Klem commented: “Since the beginning of February, they were some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand.
“For several different retailers Ivanka Trump was a top performer online, and in some of the categories it was the [brand’s] best performance ever.”
