Anonymous industry satirist “Roy Morgan” is back, penning a very open and honest letter imploring young adlanders to take control of their mental health, as the industry doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon…
You are not alone, but it is up to you to take control.
I’ve had a lot of people messaging the Roy Morgan Facebook page about how my last letter made them feel supported, but they felt like nothing changed for them afterward and they still feel like they are drowning in an increasingly demanding industry.
You are not alone in this, however, you most certainly have to be the person who helps you. It can sometimes seem easier to go with the tide and wait for help.
It’s easier to relinquish the power in your life to someone else, instead of admitting that you are the only person who is going to fight for yourself. But it is also normal to feel alone in your battles, and I want to tell you that you aren’t.
I’m Roy Morgan and I’m on heavy antidepressants.
I’m not perfect, I’m flawed and I need help to get through my day-to-day. I’m not weak, I suffer from mental illness, but I have medication to help. Just like you would with a headache.
If you are one of those people who still believe that taking meds are silly, or an easy way out from feeling sad “wake up”, you are misinformed and hurting people you might not even be aware of.
You are not alone, as a lot of people around you are going through the same thing- like me, I feel alone and scared- but it’s up to you. It’s up to me. Normalise it. You aren’t the minority, you are a beacon of something most will go through. Take your mental health days. Don’t be ashamed of your meds. You might be flawed, but all of us are.
My name is Roy Morgan and I suffer from anxiety, and I don’t want to feel alone in this anymore.
Yours,
R.M.
