Radio duo Rove & Sam have picked up another time slot in the Hit Network, this time in the evening right after Hamish & Andy.

For an hour each weeknight, the best bits from Rove & Sam’s Sydney brekkie show will be broadcast to Australia. The breakfast show is currently staying in Sydney so the banter with Rove McManus and Sam Frost will be new to the rest of Australia.

The newly paired duo have had a rough trot so far since taking over from punted Dan & Maz. They have stagnated at a three point share in the latest radio ratings from GfK, well behind the FM winners of Kyle & Jackie O who were last on an 11.3 share.

They have also had their fair share of snide remarks from radio shock jock and competitor Kyle Sandilands who recently ridiculed the pair for not picking up any more listeners since the prior rating ratings in February this year.

Despite the stagnation and competitors saying they don’t feel a threat from the duo at all, Gemma Fordham, content director for the Hit Network, is firmly behind the show.

“The thing with breakfast is, we’re in it for the long haul,” she told B&T after the last radio ratings.

“We’ve obviously got three years ahead with these guys and we’re very committed to the show and we know that our tracking shows we’re starting to see some good indicators.

“I’m really confident that as the year progresses it’s going to show.”

This new syndicated show is no doubt a new marketing push for the duo – it will push Rove & Sam out to the rest of the nation, and could be a way to try and snag a couple more listeners.

Fordham said the national move is in response to the popularity of the duo’s daily podcasts.

“Rove & Sam is a show that is authentic, funny and very real. The decision to spread the love of Rove & Sam, across the country, is due to the positive response the breakfast show is receiving,” she said in a statement.

“Rove & Sam is one of our top podcasts weekly, giving us strong evidence that markets outside of Sydney are keen to be part of this show. We are delighted to now deliver this great audio content nation-wide, weeknights from 7-8pm on 54 stations in the Hit Network.”

The new show will slot in between Hamish & Andy (4-6pm) and the Hit 30 with Emma Freedman and Angus O’Loughlin at 8pm.

The show commences Tuesday 26 April.
