Comedian and KIIS FM radio host Dave “Hughesy” Hughes has played a big part in crowning the winners of Nine’s The Block, splashing some serious cash to snap up the property renovated by young contestants Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles.

Hughes, who lives around the corner from the boho-themed five-bedder in the south-east Melbourne suburb of Elsternwick, successfully bid a jaw-dropping $3.067 million to claim the property – $447,000 above the reserve price.

The funnyman didn’t appear in last night’s finale of The Block, but was at the property site to celebrate with Barker and Knowles after the auction, judging by this Instagram post.

These two and their team did a cracking job and created a brilliant house. And now my team take over! What could go wrong? #winners @joshandelyse @elyseknowlzy @theblock

As expected, The Block’s final episode proved a triumph for Nine and left all-comers in its renovating dust, according to the overnight ratings figures by OzTAM.
