Oura Bets On Recovery With Immersive Sydney Marathon Activation

ŌURA, the smart ring technology brand, launched The Reset, a post-race experience in Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal Arrivals Hall, built for tired marathon runners, their crews and families to prioritise recovery.

Guests arriving at The Reset stepped into a registration space where they could learn more about the science behind recovery and explore Oura Ring 5 firsthand before their session. A wall of pillows, set on a subtle slant, invited guests to lean back for a photo before they went further inside.

From there, runners could decelerate by entering a multisensory experience: a cloud-like, cushioned room that created a meditative environment, where a quartet of live musicians performs an original piece by Sydney-based composer Scott Alpin.

Created to soothe the release of months of preparation, the music opened at a tempo mirroring a runner’s post-race heart rate and resolved toward a resting 60–80 BPM over ten minutes.  No screens, no branding — nothing asked of guests except to listen to their body while it resets.

Visitors then moved into a second room where the experience closed on a shareable ‘refuel’ moment, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the harbour and the Sydney Opera House beyond. Developed in collaboration with A.P. Bakery, guests enjoyed a cloud-shaped pastry with recovery-boosting ingredients, including dates, almonds, hemp seeds and magnesium.

Oura ran a wide reaching marketing campaign around the activation in the lead-up to and throughout race day. Marathon-goers saw OOH and DOOH ads across Sydney to raise awareness of The Reset, with QR codes to enable registration.

Oura also worked with a range of local creators and invited them to share their experience of The Reset with their audiences. Alongside this, Oura is also ran a media partnership with Vinyl Media, including advertising and sponsored editorial across Concrete Playground, Refinery29 and Time Out.

“Marathons are synonymous with personal bests and medals, with little thought given to recovery,” said Oura chief marketing officer Doug Sweeny.

“But science tells us that good recovery is just as important in getting us to the finish line as the long runs and gruelling training that come in the lead up.”

“This is what Oura has always stood for — that health and performance come from listening to what your body needs, not just pushing through,” Sweeny continued. “The Reset is an immersive space where runners and their crews can experience that approach to balance and recovery for themselves — not as an afterthought, but as an equal part of race day.”
