Oreo has embraced its dark side, partnering with upcoming film, The Batman, for a multi-phased cross media European campaign, via Saatchi & Saatchi.
The campaign is inspired by the riddles prevalent throughout the anticipated new film (of which, The Riddler will be the primary villain, just hopefully not with bright red hair and tight, fluorescent green spandex this time).
Audiences will be invited to get playful, solve riddles and dive deep into The Batman universe, via multiple channels and touchpoints such as social media, TV, print, and OOH.
One of the interactive experiences allows visitors to virtually enter and explore the Batcave, unlocking secrets of the Caped Crusader only previously accessible to Batman himself and Alfred.
A unique OREO embossed with a Batman design will also take-over European shelves, as well as feature in a spot produced by Sehsucht and Pop Studios, in which the famous black and white cookie is used to remake iconic scenes from the franchise.
“Batman is a true icon we all know. It has always been a very dark character,” said executive creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi, Christian Anhut.
“Through riddles, we found a way to link Batman with the playful DNA of OREO – staying true and authentic to both fantastic brands. It’s been a great partnership.”
Mondeléz Europe’s Chiara Missio added the food manufacturer – which owns the OREO brand – was very excited to be partnering with the new Batman film.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to create a playful experience together with a much-loved icon,” she said.
“One that builds on the narrative of riddles, but lets fans engage and immerse into The Batman world, even far beyond the film.
“These are the kind of experiences that make us connect with our consumers and allow them to: Stay playful.”
