Not to be outdone by all the commotion surrounding Ten’s deal with US media giant CBS, Nine Entertainment Co. is reportedly in discussions with Bloomberg around a possible joint venture.

Bloomberg is a global provider of info about all things finance, and is mostly owned by US billionaire and ex-New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.

According to The Australian Financial Review, the discussions between Nine and Bloomberg are in the “advanced” stage, although the nature of the potential JV isn’t clear.

Foxtel currently broadcasts Bloomberg’s 24-hour news channel, while Sky News Business also airs some content by the financial info player. Bloomberg also has its own regional newsroom in Sydney.

Furthermore, Nine is now able to run its own dedicated news channel after selling its 33 per cent stake in Sky News to News Corp in December last year.

However, The AFR understands that Bloomberg isn’t the only party that Nine is having conversations with.

Nine declined to comment when approached by B&T.
