Aping 80s classic film “Weird Science” the film shows two mad Swiss scientists debating the merits of Ronaldinho and Mbappé. Deciding to test their theory, they create the Footballverse to pit the two against each other.
The experiment gets out of hand as more of the greatest soccer players of all time, playing at the height of their powers get added in, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, the original Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Ronaldinho, and even Sam Kerr.
Nike says that the “Footballverse” exemplifies its “long-standing belief that the future of sport has infinite potential.”
The company says that by showcasing Nike players past and present, it “shows that every generation of athletes makes a unique footprint on the game, expands the sport, and inspires future generations to leave their mark.”
In addition to notable players, the film has a familiar soundtrack,“Weird Science,” written by Danny Elfman and performed by Oingo Boingo.
The launch of the Footballverse comes just days after Nike launched a new web3 initiative that allows buyers to swap and share virtual sneakers.
