Netflix has announced that Brad Pitt, Oscar winner and two time ‘sexiest man alive’, will be making an original movie for the streaming platform.
Netflix shares have hit an all-time high on Tuesday — trading at $645.03 per share — as investors jumped on board after Netflix announced an exclusive movie deal with Brad Pitt.
Pitt will star in War Machine, directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) and based on Michael Hastings’ bestselling book The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan. Here is Netflix’s synopsis of the film:
“Determined to win the “impossible” war once and for all with a radical new approach, the general and his motley staff of commanders and press advisers race across the globe navigating delicate international alliances and troop requests, the charged battlefield of Washington politics, the voracious appetite of the media, and the day-to-day management of the war itself — all the while struggling to stay connected to the lives of men and women out in the field.’’
“War Machine is a rip-roaring, behind-the-facade tale of modern war decision-makers, from the corridors of power to the distant regions of Americas ambitions,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos.
“We are so excited to be a part of the inspiring commitment by Netflix to produce cutting-edge content and to deliver it to a global audience” said Pitt.
This year, Netflix stock is up about 86 per cent. The company now has a market capitalisation of nearly $40 billion, making it more valuable currently than Yahoo, Dish Network, T-Mobile, CBS or Twitter.
In other news, the streaming service will expand to Italy, Portugal and Spain by October this year.
