It appears even Ramsay Street’s inhabitants cannot escape COVID-19, as the soap opera pauses its filming for at least the rest of the week.
Network 10 and Fremantle met with the cast and crew and decided to halt filming until Monday next week, following the government’s new rule that forbids the gathering of 100 or more people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Neighbours has decided to take a short break this week to ensure the production model in place can withstand any potential impact of the current COVID-19 situation,” 10 and Fremantle said.
The companies said there will be no interruption to the on-air or delivery schedule.
Meanwhile, 10’s The Bachelor is continuing with its filming, as is its revamped Big Brother show. Over at Nine, Ninja Warriors is recording with no live audience, while The Block is also pushing ahead.
A Nine spokesperson said: “Production crew on The Block are working hard to ensure all government guidelines relating to COVID-19, such as social distancing, are being met.
“The site is an active construction site that employs many tradespeople and freelancers, who are relying on income earned from The Block for a living.
“As per the Prime Minister’s comments this morning, construction sites should continue operating. The safety and well-being of contestants and essential staff is of the utmost concern for production.”
Nine said the situation will “continue to be monitored closely”.
News shows such as The Project, Studio 10, News Breakfast and Q+A continue to film without a studio audience.
