Ten’s MasterChef has once again proven the embattled broadcaster’s knight in shining armour, last night giving it one of its best audience shares for 2018.

The stalwart cooking show, now in its tenth season, debuted to 890,000 viewers last night and gave Ten 20.5 per cent audience share – double that of Sunday night.

Nine managed to win the night on the back of The Voice that pulled in 949,000. Nine had 28.6 per cent audience share, Seven pulled in 26.5 per cent, Ten had 20.5 per cent of the evening’s eyeballs, the ABC 16.8 per cent and SBS 7.6 per cent.

Seven’s returning House Rules had a night to forget, managing only 607,000 – its worst debut in the show’s six-year history. Likewise, Seven’s The Mentor continues to struggle, pulling 369,000 last night. It’s down 25 per cent since debut.

In the battle of the 6pm news bulletins, Seven (1.1 million) just edged out Nine (1.03 million).

Nine’s ACA did well with 912,000, while its Stan Walker: Fight of His Life did less so, managing only 397,000.

Over at Ten, The Project (587,000) improved, while Roseanne managed 401,000.
