Marie Joyce, national sales director at Mamamia, has capped off a record-breaking year with recognition at B&T’s Women in Media Awards, presented by Are Media, taking out the Media Sales and Account Management category.
Marie Joyce has led Mamamia’s Victorian business to its most successful year on record, lifting revenue by 66 per cent and tripling its client base. A highlight of the year was the launch of Encore, a new post-upfront strategy that increased post-event meetings by 60 per cent and lifted incremental revenue dramatically. She also played a critical role in securing Mamamia’s first branded vodcast, Medibank’s Big Little Chats, and the platform I Never Told You that encourages families to open up about their mental health.
Speaking to B&T after receiving her award, Joyce said: “Thank you so much. It means so much. We work in the most incredible industry with the most incredible women, and I truly believe that as an industry, we are leading the way in regards to how women are connecting, lifting each other, and the work that we’re doing together”.
“I don’t think there’s any other industry like it. So I’m so excited,” she said.
Women, Joyce reflected, have an “incredible ability to make that human connection, which then links into great business and doing great work”.
The recognition comes in a year where brief volume rose 65 per cent, churn reduced significantly, and net promoter scores soared as the Victorian team expanded by 45 per cent. Alongside the commercial success, Joyce has also hosted industry dinners and launched initiatives like Locker Room and No Filter to help women in media and marketing connect, share leadership insights, and navigate challenges.
Mamamia’s culture has been a major driver of its growth and success. “The biggest thing is that every idea is taken to the table, and every idea is valid. That doesn’t matter whether you’ve been in the business for two minutes. It’s actually better if you’ve just come in fresh, because you’ve got the freshest and most innovative ideas to those that have been more seasoned, every idea has the opportunity to be taken and made into something, and I think that’s what really keeps Mamamia on the pulse of culture, but also the ability to connect with women deeply, because we listen to all women, whether that’s inside our organisation or outside.”
Described by peers as “commercially sharp, people-focused, and future-ready,” Joyce is a leader who has driven performance and has championed the development of high-performing teams led by women.
