Departed Triple M star Lawrence ‘Moonman’ Mooney would have lawyers salivating as he chases after a $1million-plus damages claim against his former employers.
Mooney still had over a year remaining on his contract with SCA before an internal issue led to the popular personality’s abrupt departure from the airwaves. It’s believed his salary for 2021 was worth somewhere between $1.5million to $2million.
As reported on by News.com.au, the reason for Mooney leaving may have had something to do with a possible falling out with core members of staff as the show’s ratings tumbled.
Now Mooney’s lawyers have lodged a statement of claim in the NSW Supreme Court alleging “breach of contract”.
While Mooney certainly wouldn’t be the first-ever disgruntled ex-employee to walk the Earth, what could likely make his case special is the potentially huge size of damages he’s seeking.
Apparently, the Triple M star will be chasing “no less than $1million” in damages, which is in the ballpark of his base annual salary.
Though what this doesn’t take into account is Mooney’s supposedly very generous performance incentives. Consequently, it wouldn’t be implausible for Mooney to pursue an even greater amount of damages in the future.
Mooney joins an increasingly long list of high-profile on-air talent that has left Triple M like Jane Kennedy, Mick Molloy, Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy.
