REA Group has appointed experienced marketing and advertising executive Kieren Cooney to the newly-created role of chief marketing officer.
Cooney joins REA Group after more than 20 years in senior marketing and telecommunications roles, including his most recent position as CEO of Omnicom Interbrand. Prior to that, Cooney worked as the CMO at NBN Co and Telecom New Zealand.
Cooney’s appointment will take effect in the coming months, where he will also be a part of REA Group’s executive leadership team, reporting to CEO Tracey Fellows.
Fellows said the creation of the CMO role was designed to support REA Group’s expanding global footprint as well as its growth into property related services.
“Over the years, realestate.com.au has grown to become a much-loved brand among people looking to sell, rent or buy their home,” she said.
“There’s a tremendous opportunity to build on that brand in sectors that represent a natural extension of what we do well.
“We are excited by what Kieren can offer the business with his world-class experience. He will drive our global marketing strategy.”
Commenting on what attracted him to the role, Mr Cooney said the opportunity to be part of a business with a clear ambition to help people navigate some of the biggest decisions of their lives was very appealing.
“However, it was my interactions with the REA team, who are as welcoming as they are impressive, that really sealed the deal for me,” he said.
As part of the creation of the CMO role, REA’s executive general manager of media, Elizabeth Minogue, will now also focus on the growth of REA’s media and news/lifestyle content experience from a global perspective.
