ABC sports presenter, Tony Armstrong has called out cricket star Quinton de Kock after he refused to take a knee in support of the Back Lives Matter Movement at the T20 World Cup cricket match.
The Daily Telegraph reported that de Kock walked out of the World Cup event after it was made compulsory by Cricket South Africa that all players take a knee in support of the Black Lives Matter protest.
Officially, he withdrew for personal reasons, though rumours are swirling it is because he didn’t want to take a knee.
De Kock’s withdrawal has the cricket world in a buzz, as he is considered an incredible player and most major sporting channels are covering the news.
ABC News Breakfast dug into the story this morning and according to new.com.au, Armstrong said: “So for him to not do that, all that I think and this is my own personal opinion, the question has been bubbling in my mind is how racist do you have to be?
“To not just take a knee and do that in conjunction with your teammates to show support, to even pretend to show support? You’ve got to be pretty strong on your conviction not to.”
American quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the take a knee protest in 2016. Kaepernick would kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racial inequality.
