The Hallway ECD & partner Simon Lee announced today that The Hallway is offering a three month creative internship to the top student of the inaugural Western Sydney Ad School.
Western Sydney Ad School is the brainchild of Australian advertising legends Rocky Ranallo and Matt Smith.
Based in Parramatta, The school’s mission is to offer an advertising course that’s affordable and more accessible to creative people who wouldn’t normally consider an advertising career.
The first twelve week semester launches later this month. Ranallo said: “I just think there’s a whole lot of good talent out west that the industry is missing out on because of the high cost of most advertising schools.
“If you come from the Eastern Suburbs or have a dad or mum in the business you get a leg up. I want to give those disadvantaged kids a chance to build a book of ads so they can get a job. Simple as that.”
Smith said: “If the industry is let down by anything it’s probably the lack of diverse thinking. Different talent with different ideas can only be a bonus for an industry that thrives on original thought.”
Interning at The Hallway from early February 2020, the winning Western Sydney Ad School student will gain first-hand experience of the inner workings of the agency, with a particular focus on the creative department – shadowing creatives as they go about their work.
Lee said: “When we heard what Rocky and Matt are doing, we jumped at the chance to get involved. I love advertising for being an industry that enables creative people to earn a living doing what we love.
“And I’m stoked to be able to help open the door to talented and ambitious people for who this wonderful path might otherwise not be an option.”
Ranallo concluded: “We are incredibly grateful to The Hallway for offering this internship. It’s such a great thing for them to do and will inspire the students to work harder for that spot.”
