Former GQ commercial creative director Jack Phillips has launched Köllectve, a two-part production house that aims to shake-up video production.
As an agency, Köllectve connects brands with cost-effective videographers working across fashion, music and automotive alongside event coverage and documentary.
As an end-to-end production house, Köllectve also produces larger video projects adopting a scale-to-brief model that ensures the right creative outfit is matched with the corresponding brief.
As the digital and commercial lead for Australia’s leading men’s publication, Phillips has seen first-hand how the digital space has shifted towards a video first content play. Having established Studio GQ as the go-to for branded video in the men’s publishing space, Phillips departs at an interesting time for Australian media.
“Video consumption is continually on the rise and the demand for professional video services is high,” Phillips said.
“But brands and publishers often find it hard to find the right video professionals for their small budget projects and lack the time and man power to line manage larger ones. Köllectve was created to help on both fronts. We connect and we also produce.”
Having spent over 10 years working for media companies such as Monocle, Vice, Channel 7 and GQ, Phillips says brands often struggle to find an outside partner that can work with both clients and distribution platforms like publishers.
“We’re all about making content that is created with the overall digital strategy in mind. So, whether it’s a small piece of video content created to drive retailer clicks through Facebook or a cross-platform multi-brand mini-series made in partnership with a publisher, we approach each project appropriately,” he added.
“What makes us different, is that we’re journalists first. We know how to tell a great story, work with talent to tease out their personalities and find creatives to execute visually. I have spent years telling stories for publishers, engaging readers and aligning brands with digital experience. Now we’re providing that expertise directly to our clients.”
