Former AFL Star “Spida” Everitt Takes Travel TV Show Global

Gold Coast radio identity and former AFL player Peter “Spida” Everitt and his wife Sheree have gone global with their national travel TV show The Great Australian Doorstep, launching the series on iTunes.
Mr Everitt said The Great Australian Doorstep was the first Australian travel television show to be picked up by Apple’s global media platform, which follows the couple on their self-drive camping and caravanning holidays across Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.
“It’s taken four years of hard work to get to this point and now we can start reaping the rewards. It’s a great feeling,” he said.
“This is an enormous step-up and puts us above and beyond any other travel show in Australia.”
Mr Everitt said iTunes looked favourably upon the show’s big focus on destinations and the holiday concept of caravan and camping.
“They are very strict about advertising content or endorsements, and although that’s pretty minimal anyway for us, we had to edit out clothing and hat logos and things like that,” he said.
“iTunes also thought some of our content was too Australian and felt it wouldn’t be understood by the wider international audience, so we had to go through a huge re-editing process to meet their standards. But it’s worth it now that we’ve launched.”
Keen to appeal to as many prospective travellers to Australia as possible, the couple selected their most iconic episodes for iTunes users to download.
“We chose the episodes that feature destinations like Uluru, the Kimberleys, Kakadu and the Whitsundays because we know these will have the broadest appeal,” Ms Everitt said.
“They are the places that people think of when they talk about Australia, so it made sense to push those ones forward.”
Some of The Great Australian Doorstep’s episodes filmed in New Zealand, Alaska & Canada have also made the cut to feature on iTunes.
Heading into its ninth season, the show airs nationally on 7TWO, as well as in New Zealand, Canada, China and south-east Asia.
The Great Australian Doorstep also doubles as a radio show hosted by the couple each Sunday morning on 42 radio stations across Australia.
