Following Justin Milne’s resignation this morning, Australian media has already begun speculating who could temporarily fill the role in his absence.
The candidate predicted to take the broadcaster’s helm could be ex-chief financial officer of Seven, Peter Lewis (pictured).
According to his Linkedin profile, Lewis has been a director at the ABC for four years and has been on-again-off-again CFO at Seven since 1998, with his longest stint at the network lasting 12 years.
Lewis is also a non-executive director at Gravity Media Group.
The Guardian hinted at the likelihood Lewis could be picked for the top job, citing the ABC’s Chairman Act.
The act states if a deputy chairperson is not available to fill in the role following the departure of the chairperson, a director will be picked.
“Where there is no Deputy Chairperson—a non‑executive Director is appointed as Deputy Chairperson.”
B&T has approached ABC for comment.
The speculation comes less than an hour after Milne’s resignation, following news the ABC board had been pushing for his exit.
This comes after the spectacular sacking of managing director Michelle Guthrie on Monday.
