An American pizza chain has been forced to apologise after it mistakenly ran a magazine advert that featured a well-endowed, naked man in the froth atop a cappuccino.
Chiaro’s Pizza & Restaurant, who has three outlets in the US state of Pennsylvania, ran the print campaign to promote its “award winning pizza and hoagies (sub sandwiches)”.
The ad featured a picture of a chocolate cake and a cappuccino being poured (the image was reportedly sourced from an online picture library) that showed a meme that’s been circulating on the internet for some time of a Black football player, Wardy Joubert, who was famous for his very large appendage. The blunder was soon picked-up by eagle-eyed readers, forcing the family-friendly Chiaro’s to issue an apology via its Facebook page. The apology already racking-up 1300 likes, over 1000 comments and more than 300 shares.
Chiaro’s addressed the gaffe and said proofreaders and the restaurant failed to catch “the subtle nature of what we thought was a tasteful photo of a cappuccino”.
“We deeply apologise for letting this slip by,” Chiaro’s wrote.
“None of our proof readers, The Community Connection proofreaders, or the actual printer proofers caught the mistake before it was printed and circulated. We are working on making sure this does not happen again.”
However, the crude blunder doesn’t appear to have upset Chiaro’s customers, with most social media users seeing the funny side, while others said they’d now visit the restaurant to show their support.
“I wish I got a copy, this is so funny and we don’t blame you at all. Mistakes happen, and thanks for the much needed laugh,” one woman wrote.
“No No, ya’ll have just gone on my ‘restaurants I need to try’ list when I’m out that way,” another added.
