Daily Mail Severs Ties With Nine To Become A Wholly Owned Publication

The Daily Mail is tearing away from Nine Entertainment Co to become a 100 per owned Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) publication.

Nine Entertainment Co. and the Daily Mail have had a joint venture since the Mail’s launch in Australia early 2014.

There won’t be any change to the Daily Mail website, with Peter Holder continuing as managing director of the Australian version, reporting to Global MailOnline publisher and CEO, Martin Clark.

Clark said: “I’d like to thank Nine for its sterling support since we launched two years ago to make Daily Mail Australia one of Australia’s leading news sites but both companies felt that in a changing media landscape the needs of the website were best served by sole-ownership going forward.

“We are now planning for even more investment in our editorial and commercial offerings.”

Nine Entertainment’s new CEO Hugh Marks – who took over from David Gyngell last year – added: “As our consumer and commercial interests evolve we have agreed with DMGT that our individual interests are best served by unwinding the JV – the NEC team wish them well as they continue to build their business in the Australian market.”
