A Gender Pay Gap Bot has been calling out companies that are tweeting about International Women’s Day by replying with the pay gap statistics for that very company – what a girl boss move.
The Gender Pay Gap bot is taking no prisoners and running amuck on Twitter, overshadowing companies’ Happy International Women’s Day tweets with some harsh and revealing truths.
For instance, fashion house Missguided tweeted “Happy International Womens’ Day!👑 We’re paying it forward this IWD, and we’re giving away prizes throughout the day, including x2 lots of £1,000 CASH💘
“To win, tweet us using #PayItForwardWithMissguided and share the best piece of advice you’ve received✨”
The Gender Pay Gap Bott replied with, “In this organisation women’s medium hourly pay is. 40 per cent lower than men’s!”
Ouch!
In this organisation, women's median hourly pay is 40% lower than men's. https://t.co/wm3Nsro6Zq

The havoc continued from there with the Gender Pay Gap Bot refusing to be silenced.
In this organisation, women's median hourly pay is 9% lower than men's. https://t.co/kPFLhoC4Ja

Suddenly companies were scurrying to delete tweets after being called out. It was chaos but the kind of chaos companies deserve for not paying women equally.
Performative allyship is something we talk about a lot, particularly with companies that like to capitalise on minorities but not actually help them.
International Women’s Day brings up this. kind of hypocrisy. Companies will tweet, or hold lunches to celebrate their female staff but are they are actually empowering them when it counts?
We don’t need tweets we need equal pay!
