Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony Pulls An Impressive Two Million

Last night’s telecast of the Commonwealth Games Opening ceremony pulled an impressive two million viewers for Seven, allaying fears there was little interest in the event.

The opening show, opened by Prince Charles, featured a strong Indigenous theme combined with a kitschy homage to Gold Coast beach life.

Seven has today claimed it was the most watched opening ceremony of any Olympics or Commonwealth Games in the past decade.

The strong numbers last night would also give Seven hope that the 10-day event will be a ratings winner.

Sadly for Seven, however, we’re still in the Easter non-ratings period, that don’t resume until next Monday.

Last night, Seven had a massive 52.7 per cent share last night, making it the biggest number this year. Nine pulled 18.4 per cent, the ABC 12.7 per cent, Ten had 11 per cent and SBS managed 5.1 per cent. Interestingly, the second most watched show last night was the ABC’s Hard Quiz.
