The eagle-eyed among you might have noticed two new Awards have joined this year’s B&T Women in Media Awards lineup. You might even have wondered why we’ve chosen to add these awards. Here’s why.
The new Education/Research and Finance & Accounting Awards are both long-awaited additions to our awards. And their arrival recognise the invaluable work that happens behind the scenes in Australia’s greatest marketing organisations and the work that happens before women join the workforce.
While we celebrate the women smashing through glass ceilings on screen, in print, in creative teams and in agency boardrooms, there is a bigger question worth asking.
Who helped build the foundations that allowed those leaders to rise in the first place?

There is a simple truth behind the introduction of these awards: the pipeline starts long before someone reaches the apex of any organisation.
It starts in classrooms. It starts with the people who analyse, challenge and shape the future of the industry. It starts with the financial experts who ensure businesses can grow, innovate and make decisions with confidence.
No industry can achieve genuine equity if the spaces where talent is developed — and where businesses are built — are overlooked.
The Research/Education award and Finance & Accounting trophies have been highly prized at B&T’s Women Leading Tech Awards, presented by Atlassian.
We believe the work done by women in these lesser-heralded but no less important fields in the advertising, marketing and media industries is just as important.

At B&T’s Women in Media Awards, the Research/Education award is open to women lecturing, researching or teaching on the topics of advertising, marketing or media industries.
If you’re educating students at either high school, tertiary or post-graduate levels, this award will cement the positive legacies you’re creating in and out of the classroom. Judges will look for characteristics and examples of curiosity, passion, innovation, intuition and originality in their approach.
The Finance & Accounting award, meanwhile, recognises women working in finance and accounting roles within advertising, marketing and media organisations.
Eligible roles include (but are not limited to) CFOs, finance directors, financial controllers, accountants, finance managers and commercial analysts.
