Belinda Rowe entered the media industry at a time when there were barely any women, let alone female leaders.
Starting out as a junior in the industry, she went on to develop an impressive global career, leading Zenith out of London and working in cities across the globe. She is now a non-executive director at companies including Sky New Zealand, ARN Media, Sydney Swans, and Temple & Webster.
Rowe was recently recognised for her work in media by the MFA – who added her to their hall of fame. It is an honour that, historically, has been given to more men called John than women.
In this interview, she talks to Sparrow about what it was really like to be CEO of a media agency as a woman in a world ruled by men, as well as how she chooses her board roles and how diversity and inclusion can be improved in the industry.
